Basis for analysis of development trends, forecasts and projections of individual areas of social life

In the field of state governance and the national economy, information on the state of society at a given moment and the geographical distribution of the population is a basis for analysis of development trends, forecasts and projections of individual areas of social life. We also find a specific use in the drafting of state policies, whether in setting current policies or in creating long-term strategies. The census results also have an impact on the redistribution of the number of seats in the European Parliament, which is based on the number of population of each Member State. Collecting accurate data of high quality and information on Slovak society, its demographic, social characteristics, and housing in Slovakia allows international comparisons at the level of Europe and the world.

The census also supports the development at regional and local level

The census results present a demographic, social, national, religious structure of the population in a given area, as well as provide information on the structure of dwellings. Therefore, they can significantly influence and shape decisions of authorities at regional and local level. Data are a basis for territorial planning of municipalities as well as in the solution of transport systems, construction of park and ride facilities, parking spaces, as thanks to these data attendance at schools and employment is discovered. Finding out the real number of incoming and outgoing population to work or school will help to take measures that can contribute to improving the traffic situation in a municipality or its surroundings.

Geographical distribution of the population and its character represent an important information to build networks of different services: integrated rescue service vehicles, shops, pharmacies, hospitals, schools, offices, etc. The amount of shares of taxes for a municipality also depends on the number of permanent residents in a municipality. Data on common residence can realize and update many requirements of municipalities to improve the quality of life of the population. Planning of the number of places in kindergartens, primary schools and planning of services for seniors depends on an age structure of the population in a municipality.

The census results have an irreplaceable role in the analysis of population structures, analysis of reproductive behaviour, educational structure, they provide information on households. The census results can be used as a basis for municipalities when drawing on Eurofunds, e.g. for road repairs, sewerage, support for leisure activities, tourism, etc.
