Cultural Regions of Slovakia

Cultural Regions of Slovakia, a publication issued by the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic on October 31, 2025, provides a statistical overview of the cultural regions of Slovakia based on data from the 2021 Population and Housing Census, demographic statistics from 2021 to 2024, and projections of their future population development up to 2050.

The cultural regions are presented through statistical data – not as "dry statistics", but as "living statistical images", complemented by the typical embroidery of each region. They illustrate how the regions differ and, at the same time, complement one another; what they are like, how they are changing, and how they are expected to evolve in the coming decades.

The cultural regions of Slovakia were delineated through a list of specific municipalities belonging to each region, based on their affiliation with local and regional identities, as well as on the geographical characteristics of the territory (geomorphological barriers, river basins, road connections between settlements, etc.). Historical administrative units (such as counties or comitati) were not taken into account, as they represent only historical territorial-administrative division without current social relevance.
