Publication for the youngest readers
The Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic has published a unique publication Census for the little ones. Its aim is to popularize the basic results of the Population and Housing Census 2021, as well as to bring its significance closer to the youngest readers. The census method and its importance for society are adequately explained to children.
The publication is primarily intended for the primary school pupils of the first grade of primary schools, it is written in an engaging form accessible to a child audience and can be used in various lessons but also as a leisure activity in after school clubs.
Children in the first grade of primary school cannot yet imagine population numbers in hundreds of thousands or millions, so the census results are proportionally converted to a sample population of 100 inhabitants of Slovakia. The most important basic population characteristics such as sex, age, mother tongue and marital status are thus presented in a simplified scale. For better illustration, this information is also visualised in the form of simple and clear graphs and maps.
In addition to presenting interesting facts, the publication also includes several interactive exercises. Children can organize, for example, their own class census with the help of a teacher and then process and evaluate the results. Pupils can also test their acquired knowledge in the form of a humorous final quiz.
The publication is publicly available for download and is easy to use - the teacher can provide it to students in printed form or present it to them by sharing it on an interactive whiteboard.
The publication is available only in Slovak language.
