Economic determinants of interregional mobility
August 30, 2024
The Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic, in cooperation with the company TREXIMA Bratislava, presents an analytical study titled Economic determinants of interregional mobility, prepared based on the results of the 2021 Population and Housing Census. The study focuses on the analysis the economic factors influencing interregional labour mobility in Slovakia.
An in-depth understanding of the patterns of population behaviour in terms of labour mobility is crucial for employers, public administrations as well as individual regions. The most relevant source for such an analysis and for identifying the deeper motives leading to increasing and regionally differentiated commuter mobility is the data from SODB 2021. Thanks to the comprehensiveness of the SODB 2021 data, we are not only able to pinpoint the numbers of commuters, but we are also able to better quantify the main motives for the decision to commute. The study contains a number of innovative and novel elements in mobility analysis, bringing new insights into labour mobility, for the first time analysing and defining labour mobility by real commuting distances and bringing new insights into the determinants of labour mobility.
