Slovakia compared to EU countries (2021 Census)

The publication provides an overview of Slovakia’s position among the countries of the European Union based on the results of the 2021 Population and Housing Census. It draws on internationally comparable data and illustrates the extent to which Slovakia resembles other EU countries, while also highlighting the areas in which it retains its own specific characteristics. It presents our country as a natural and integral part of the EU, while at the same time bringing its own distinctive and unmistakable character. The journey towards understanding this character is divided into seven thematic areas – from the geographical context and the demographic profile of the population to education, employment and family structures, as well as the specific characteristics of housing. The overview concludes with a chapter mapping the Slovak diaspora across the EU.
