The President of the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic Ing. Peter Peťko, MBA

„Population and housing censuses are the only source of information on households, their structures and their development in the Slovak Republic. The 2021 Census highlighted new trends in the development of Slovak households and the extended results offer an opportunity for a deeper analysis. Equally valuable are the information on the occupancy of houses and dwellings, which are processed by occupancy by permanent residence, but also by occupancy by current residence.“

The data on census and dwelling households are created based on the current residence of the residents. Dwelling household consist of all persons, who jointly occupy one dwelling, i.e. each occupied dwelling represents one dwelling household. Census households consists of persons who jointly occupy one dwelling and is determined on the basis of reciprocal family relations. Family census household can be made up of a married couple (with or without children), a cohabiting couple (with or without children) or a lone parent with children.
