Statistical Office of the SR published the basic data on households

The Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic has published on its website www.scitanie.sk the basic results on households from the 2021 Population and Housing Census.

As of 1 January 2021, there were 2 376 103 census households in Slovakia

Family households dominate the census households in Slovakia, accounting for more than 60 % (1 436 078). As many as 4 163 329 inhabitants of Slovakia live in family households.

Non-family households (households of one-persons and other households without family bonds) account for more than 37 % and are home to 959 900 inhabitants. Full family households (couple households) make up ¾ of all family households. Almost 88 % of full family households are married couples, 12 % are cohabiting couples.

In lone parent households the predominant model is that of a lone mother with a child or several children. They account for almost 86 %. Lone fathers with a child account for 14 %.

One-person make up more than 35 % of census households (i.e. 835,614 households) and 55 % of them are female.

In total, there are 1 833 150 dwelling households in Slovakia

Average number of dwelling household members in Slovakia is 2.8 persons. Single-member (27.14%) and two-member dwelling households (26.93%) prevail.

The data on census households and dwelling households are based on the current residence of the inhabitants.

Dwelling household consists of all persons who jointly occupy one dwelling, i.e. each occupied dwelling represents one dwelling household. Chief criterion: common housing.

Census households consists of persons who jointly occupy one dwelling and is determined on the basis of reciprocal family relations.
